What is the process and cost of egg freezing?
IVF is a bridge to new life, and everyone on this journey hopes to see the dawn of success. For some, it takes just one attempt to hear the laughter of a baby, while others may face multiple attempts without achieving their dream. This raises a poignant question: Why am I not among the lucky ones? Does the success rate of IVF really come down to "luck"? In fact, the answer lies in the interplay of science and individual differences.
In IVF treatments, the transfer of a blastocyst is a critical step that determines the outcome. But how are blastocysts classified, and which ones are more likely to lead to success?
Blastocysts are graded based on three key indicators: the degree of expansion of the blastocoel, the quality of the inner cell mass (which develops into the fetus), and the trophectoderm cells (which form the placenta). They are rated using a combination of numbers and letters. For example, an "AA" grade indicates that both the inner cell mass and trophectoderm cells are of top quality. Generally speaking, AA-grade blastocysts are of higher quality and have a relatively higher chance of success after implantation. However, even high-grade blastocysts do not guarantee a 100% success rate, as embryo development and implantation are also influenced by various factors, such as the uterine environment and the patient’s overall health.
Clinical data show that blastocysts formed on the fifth day are typically of higher quality than those formed on the sixth day. However, this does not mean that sixth-day blastocysts have no potential. Sixth-day blastocysts may simply need more time to mature and can also yield healthy embryos through rigorous screening. Therefore, selecting blastocysts should be tailored to the couple's reproductive conditions and actual situation, with decisions made based on a comprehensive evaluation by a professional reproductive medical team.
IVF-PGT (also known as PGT-A) is one of the key techniques for improving success rates. This technology screens blastocysts for chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders, helping to select healthy embryos for implantation. By reducing the risks of miscarriage and genetic disorders, IVF-PGT provides families with greater confidence as they welcome a new life.
The success of IVF is not determined by a single factor but is the result of multiple conditions working together. Even with advanced medical technologies, individual differences still play a significant role. Therefore, maintaining a scientific approach and a positive mindset is crucial during every attempt.
